Core Offer

Portswood Primary Academy Trust (PPAT) operates a graduated approach for academy improvement based upon a core offer to all academies and further support to those academies in a category.

There is a wealth of leadership, teaching, learning, assessment and business expertise within our academies.  By building strong learning networks there is an opportunity to ensure that the most effective practices are readily transferred across academies.

Leadership

  • Annual review by the Executive Board
  • 3 meetings with individual Principals and the Executive Board to review school standards
  • 6 days CEO visits
  • 6 days Deputy CEO visits
  • 6 days PPAT consultant visits
  • 6 Principal meetings with the Executive Board for training and discussion
  • 3 Pupil Premium Lead meetings with CEO and Deputy CEO
  • 3 Inclusions Lead meetings with CEO and Deputy CEO
  • Support with Appraisal

Teaching, Learning & Assessment

  • 3 Assessment Leads meetings with CEO and Deputy CEO
  • 3 Curriculum Leads meetings with CEO and Deputy CEO
  • Support with ‘data drop’ and termly outcomes reports
  • Support with pupil progress meetings
  • Moderation support including cross academy opportunities
  • Training, support and guidance on coaching
  • Opportunities to share Professional Development Meetings, INSET Days, joint CPD and PPAT NQT Programme
  • Opportunities for staff to observe teaching in other academies
  • Opportunities for staff to provide support for colleagues including coaching, demonstration lessons and subject leader expertise support
  • Network of teachers engaged on teaching initiatives

Business & Finance

  • 6 days Chief Operations Officer visits
  • 3 visits to look at buildings, H&S, decoration, learning environment
  • HR advice and support
  • IT management and technical support
  • Financial support including processing of orders and invoices
  • Estate and premises management
  • Marketing support

  • 3 reviews by the Executive Board

PPAT aims to provide stability in deployment over time, wherever possible.  Each academy is able to request additional consultant work which will be considered based upon priorities and capacity.

PPAT will charge schools from their annual allocation of funds for these services based on the academy’s category as follows (with the discretion to vary this by +/- 1%).  Academies will be charged at least 6% in the first year after conversion.

Good & Outstanding 5% +/- 1%
Requires Improvement 8% +/- 1%
Serious Weaknesses & Special Measures 9.5% +/- 1%
